I recently installed Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan on my MacBook. I can no longer access my Word and Excel files (2004 Microsoft Office) and need to install an upgrade. But, I've heard about numerous problems re Microsoft Office 2016 in connection with El Capitan and that people aren't able to run Word or Excel.

I have a Powerpoint (version 16.16) installed on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 OS X EL CAPITAN VERSION 10.11.6. Whenever I open my Powerpoint it is non stop beeps. I tried to delete it and install it again it is not working however whenever I click on the text box to write something the sound disappears but on the other hand, it becomes really hard to type things I don't know why. Other things like word or excel are working perfectly fine only the PowerPoint causes this problem. I have to use it ASAP what can I do at this point?

Whenever I open it, it is also really hard to force quit it, it is keep opening again and again. I have to force quit it maybe 4-5 times.

I have been told I should update my laptop to high sierra do you think I should do that since my laptop is 10 years old I don’t want it to die completely I need it for my university work.

Should I buy a new laptop? What do you recommend? I really don’t want to buy a new laptop if this issue is fixable.
